Welcome
to...

A Numbers Game.
Wins and losses. New York Times Bestsellers List. Batting averages.
Calories. Delegates. Letterman’s “Top 10 List”.
We are a society that loves numbers.
We are obsessed with them.
Assign a numerical value to any subject and it is validated.
Create a pie chart and suddenly an opinion becomes a documented
scientific fact.
What better way of charting progress is there than numbers?
We dug up a lot of numbers about
Christianity in America today.
Here are just a few:
An ABC News Poll found 83% of adults 18 and over in the country say
they
are Christian.
Yet, only 28% of them attend church
weekly.
However, 85% of the same
polled people believe they are going to heaven.
A similar poll for Fox News found that 90% of
Americans believe in God
and only 67% believe in the devil.
Do those numbers surprise you?
Here is another number we found:
88% of Evangelical Children Leave the Church After High School (2002
SBC).
Think about this for a second. If you are a member of
a church that is
blessed with a youth program of 100 boys and girls, a whopping 12 of
them will still be in church after receiving their diplomas.
A poster on mondaymorninginsight.com had this to say: “Speaking from
experience, when I graduated High School, my Baptist
church didn’t have anything for me.
I
asked to teach but was told I was too young. 18
year
olds just aren’t responsible enough. Ok, so that left me with
attending
a Sunday School class. My church had a young married class, and a
singles class. I was forced to attend the singles class due to a lack
of
other resources. The youngest person in the class, besides me, was 32
years old. So, I stopped attending, just like all my friends had
done.”
Here is a young lady heading into her formative years - the time of
her
life that will define her person, shape her belief system – and she
feels alone.
There’s a number for you – 1. It’s a wonderful number when you are in
a
race. A lousy number when you are looking for fellowship.
High school graduates face several pressures that will impact the rest
of their lives: What do I do now? What college do I attend? When do I
move out? When can I get married? How do you do laundry?
There is a cliché that states “There is strength in numbers.”
So here is our number.
18:28
18:28 is a young adult ministry of Collin Creek Church in Plano, TX.
Our
mission is to give the young (and young at heart) an opportunity for
fellowship and outreach.
Our members range from the recently graduated to the recently
over-the-hill.
We are not concerned with your age so much – only your walk with God.
The 18:28 ministry has several activities throughout the week
including
Bible study on Wednesday night, Sunday school class and a relaxed,
"home group dinner and lesson".
We are laid back. Friendly. And a little goofy.
We are also very passionate about our faith and about living our lives
to the fullest – for the Glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Maybe your number is zero – as in the number of times you’ve attended
church.
Or maybe it’s 08 – and you are about to become one of the thousands of
graduates in Collin County.
Or maybe it’s 16 – the number of years since you felt a connection to
a
church.
Whatever the case, we’d like to hear from you…
…and share some of our favorite numbers.
Let’s start with
Luke 18:28.
Sincerely,
The 18:28 Ministry of Collin Creek Church.
